The cooperation has been formalised between Semmelweis University and Padjadjaran University which is located in Indonesia’s fourth largest city, Bandung. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the two universities’ rectors. This memorandum forms part of the framework agreement signed by the Hungarian and Indonesian representatives of their respective Rectors’ Conferences. Semmelweis University – as member of the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference – endorsed the framework agreement.
The cooperation between the Orthopaedic Clinic of Padjadjaran University, Bandung and Semmelweis University’s Orthopaedic Clinic started in 1993 under the leadership of our former director, Professor Tibor Vízkelety who agreed to accept two Indonesian postgraduate students annually for a duration of three months. Dr. Hermawan N. Rasyid was the first one to take part in the training and now he is the responsible professor for orthopaedic resident training at Padjadjaran University. Since then 26 students have visited our clinic which is almost 10% of the total 300 orthopaedic professionals in Indonesia with its population of 300 million people.
Following the proposal from our Indonesian partner, Semmelweis University signed a Memorandum of Unerstanding with Padjadjaran University on September 30, 2013. This agreement provides the two institutions with a formal framework for future cooperation – told us Dr. Miklós Szendrői.
