Her Excellency Tove Skarstein, newly appointed ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to Hungary, visited the Department of Dermatology, Dermatooncology and Venerology. The diplomat was received by Rector Ágoston Szél and Department Director Sarolta Kárpáti, who provided a brief overview of the recent developments which took place at the nearly 130-year-old clinic through the support of the Norwegian Fund.
The Department had received a EUR 2.7 million grant within the framework of the “European Economic Area and Norwegian Financial Mechanisms 2004-2009” programme, through which the laboratory and numerous inpatient and outpatient sections were renovated and expanded according to European standards. A Ph.D. room and a student teaching area were created, and the latter equipped with a webinar system, where students can view the digitised recordings of the lectures. The construction work was completed by fall 2010.
Various types of patient information leaflets and other publications were also produced using the Norwegian grant. Her Excellency Skarstein had the opportunity to view a new dermatology textbook, which contains many photographs made possible through the grant. Thousands of photos depicting various skin diseases were also digitised using the grant money.
Dr. Sarolta Kárpáti then gave the new ambassador a tour of the renovated areas.
The official closing event of the Norwegian Grant project at the clinic had taken place in April 2012. Encouraged by the success of this project, the Department and the Nékám Foundation operating there have been working on a new grant application since the summer, Dr. Sarolta Kárpáti reported.
