A delegation from Gulf Medical University (Ajman, United Arab Emirates), led by President Thumbay Moideen, visited Semmelweis University on March 23, 2011 with the intent of identifying potential areas for cooperation between the two institutions, and signing a memorandum of understanding to lay the foundation for future collaborative projects. Accompanying President Moideen was Mr. Akbar Moideen, director of the University’s GMC Hospitals and Mr. Vinod Abraham, assistant director of external and international affairs.
The visitors started their day at the Basic Medical Science Centre, where they were received by Vice-Rector for Education and International Affairs Miklós Kellermayer and Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Medicine László Hunyady.
The GMU delegation’s visit continued at the 1st Department of Pathology and Experimental Cancer Research, where Director András Matolcsy gave a tour of the institute and demonstrated its cutting-edge 3D microscopy system.
Having been given a brief introduction to the University, the delegation was then received by Rector Tivadar Tulassay for official discussions and the signing of the memorandum of understanding. The meeting, which took place in the Senate Hall, was also attended by Vice-Rector Miklós Kellermayer, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine István Karádi, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry Zsuzsanna Tóth, as well as Diplomat of Cultural Affairs Béla Velez from the Hungarian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and Dr. Péter Tóth from the University’s 2nd Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
The visit came to a close at the Faculty of Health Sciences, which included an introduction to the Faculty and tour of the building by Dean Judit Mészáros. Also in attendance were Vice-Dean for Education István Vingender and Director of the Faculty’s International Office, Tamás Jakkel.
