Semmelweis University held its opening ceremony of the new academic year at the Asklepios Campus Hamburg on 13 September 2010. This was the third of such occasions after the University started to train physicians in Hamburg, Germany in 2008.
This German-taught program is initially open to those students, who have successfully finished their theoretical medical studies (the first two academic years) at Semmelweis University and wish to complete their pre-clinical and clinical training in a native German-speaking environment. The renowned Asklepios Medical School in Hamburg undertook those parts of the medical education, while students remain enroled at Semmelweis University through graduation. This training of medical doctors in another country by Semmelweis University proved to be the first of its kind throughout the European Union. The number of students applying to the Asklepios Medical School is increasing every year.
