Dr. Ilhi Synn, President of South Korea’s Keimyung University, visited Semmelweis University on 13 July 2010. He was accompanied by a delegation, which included Dean of External Affairs Yongjin Park, and Dean of the College of Medicine Woo Hyun Park.
The visit’s main objective was to deepen relations between the two institutions, in accordance with the memorandum of understanding which had been signed in February of this year. In pursuit of this goal, the South Korean delegation met with Rector Tivadar Tulassay, Miklós Kellermayer (Vice-Rector for Education and International Affairs), István Karádi (Dean of Medicine) and András Matolcsy (Director of the 1st Department of Pathology and Experimental Cancer Research).
At the meeting, President Ilhi Synn affirmed Keimyung University’s desire to develop a comprehensive cooperative program with Semmelweis University, which may include scientific research initiatives and exchange programs for faculty and students.
Proclaiming his own university’s interest in establishing stronger relations, Rector Tivadar Tulassay offered to invite two Keimyung research professors per year in order to promote scientific consultation and exchange.
As a highlight of their visit to Budapest, Miklós Réthelyi, Minister of National Resources received the South Korean guests for a courtesy call.
