Rector Tivadar Tulassay opened the first academic year of Semmelweis University at the Asklepios Campus Hamburg on September 5, 2008. According to the agreement singed between the university and Asklepios Medical School (Hamburg, Germany) earlier this year, the two institutions cooperate in the training of medical students. Having finished their two-year long theoretical studies at Semmelweis in Budapest, 14 German speaking students have begun the second part of their medical training (the preclinical and clinical units) at the world-wide recognized Asklepios Clinical Group in Hamburg. At the end of the program students will receive a diploma issued by Semmelweis University that is acknowledged all over the EU. The project, which is the first ever off-campus medical training in Europe is designed to accommodate up to 42 students per year.
