Outgoing chancellor Dr. Károly Szász was honored with a Pro Universitate Award at the November meeting of the university’s Senate, in recognition of the work he has done over the past five years.

Chancellor Dr. Károly Szász is leaving his post as of November 30, 2019 and will in the future be taking on a leading executive position within the Ministry for Innovation and Technology. At the proposal of rector Dr. Béla Merkely, Dr. Károly Szász was presented with a Pro Universitate Award at the November session of the Senate.

Dr. Károly Szász has held the position of chancellor of Semmelweis University since November 15, 2014. As detailed in the laudation of the proposal, as chancellor of the university he played a crucial role in establishing the economic stability of the institution, and by rationalizing financial management processes and pursuing transparent and efficient finances he restored and continuously maintained the balanced finances of the university. By adhering to the dual requirements of operability and financial stability, he ensured the economical and rational operations of the university. By operating the economic, technical, legal and human resources divisions at a high quality and in accordance with the laws, he provided significant support for the university’s patient care, education and research activities. The exceptional performance of Dr. Károly Szász over the past five years contributed significantly to the strengthening of the university’s positions and the increase in its competitiveness, the appreciation notes. As the proposal puts it: “Dr. Károly Szász is a highly recognized member of the university community and is a highly appreciated Semmelweis citizen.”



At the Senate meeting, Dr. Éva Sáray, head of the chancellor’s cabinet, also received a Pro Universitate award, while Réka Tóth, head of the chancellor’s secretariat, was presented with an Outstanding Worker of Semmelweis University recognition.
