The Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE) has awarded the title of Distinguished Fellow to Dr. Viktor Bérczi. The previous director of the Department of Radiology (as of September 5, the Department of Medical Imaging) personally accepted the honor at the association’s congress in Barcelona.

CIRSE has awarded the title of Distinguished Fellow to two or three experts in the field each year since 1988, recognizing members of the society that have made exceptional contributions to the practice and science of interventional radiology. In his laudation, it was underlined that Dr. Viktor Bérczi’s primary interest is vascular interventional radiology, with a specific interest in uterine fibroid embolization (UFE). Dr. Bérczi has set up a major center for this procedure at Semmelweis University, where a large number of such interventions are performed each year.

Dr. Viktor Bérczi graduated from Semmelweis University in 1983, has been a member of CIRSE since 1995, and was president of the Hungarian Society of Cardiovascular Interventional Radiology from 2014-2018.

The Department of Radiology merged as of September 5 with the Department of Nuclear Medicine and the MR Research Center, creating a new unit called the Department of Medical Imaging.
