According to the world ranking list prepared recently by Times Higher Education (THE), Semmelweis University has been ranked as 401-500. With this result our institution has managed to improve its previous ranking (501-600). In the list there are altogether 1102 universities, and among the Hungarian higher-education institutions Semmelweis University has been ranked at the best place.
The institutions are measured with the consideration of five aspects: educational environment, research, the frequency of the citation of the university’s scientific works, industrial income and international orientation. Semmelweis University had its best results in terms of international orientation, which is due to the average of international students and teachers as well as the outstanding number of publications as a result of international collaborations. Apart from these, Semmelweis University has also managed to improve its results in terms of its citation index.
Altogether seven Hungarian universities were listed in this ranking: Eötvös Loránd University, the University of Szeged and the University of Pécs were ranked as 601-800, Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Corvinus University and the University of Debrecen were ranked as 801-1000. The world ranking list is led by English and American institutions: the first is the University of Oxford, the second is the University of Cambridge and the third place is shared by California Institute of Technology and Stanford University.
