Cancer is the leading cause of mortality – after cardiovascular diseases – in the Western countries, and in Hungary as well. In the past few decades – most notably in the case of breast cancer – the mortality rates have been improving, thanks to efficient screening programs. However in Hungary to this day there aren’t many obligatory screening programs. Diagnosing the malignant diseases at early- and potentially curable- stages is crucial not just from medical but from health care and economical standpoint. In the near future new screening programs are expected to be introduced, for example in the case of colorectal cancer.
