Dr. László Rosivall university professor, the president of Semmelweis Commemoration Committee signed the agreement in ceremonial frames in occasion of the International Scientific session held in the Maribor centre of Alma Mater Europea regarding the place of the statue of Ignác Semmelweis to be created by the distinguished sculptor, Iván Paulikovics: the bust will be placed in front of the entrance of the University of Maribor.

The life-sized picture of the statue’s plaster model was a part of the exhibition of the European University Bridges program where Gaberi’s famous Slovenian statues were exhibited. In the picture you can see the opening of the exhibition, in the background the main building of Corvinus University of Budapest with the Gaberi-statute, which was inaugurated recently at its southern end.

In the picture from the left to the right, rector of Alma Mater, Ludvic Toplak, previous rector of Semmelweis University, László Rosivall, the first Prime Minister of the sovereign Slovenia, Lojze Peterle, the present President, Borut Pahor and the president of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, Félix Unger as they are opening the exhibition.  Many ambassadors participated at the event, among them was Edit Szilágyiné Bátorfi.  Professor Rosivall’s presentation titled „All about people: Challenges for science and education” had great interest among the international audience of the scientific conference. The presentation introduced that the life, work and results of Semmelweis carry perpetual moral that can be beneficial for researchers and lecturers. The inauguration of the statue will be on the birthday of the saviour of the mothers.

In 2015, the 150th anniversary of Semmelweis’ death, the bronze statue based on professor László Rosivall’s idea, was inaugurated by Viktor Orbán, Prime Minister, in Tehran. This year on Semmelweis’ 200th birthday on occasion of the official Semmelweis-commemorative year many statue inaugurations will take place in several countries from Japan to Canada, from Poland to Slovenia.
