RS11448__ZZS1396-scrFive Hungarian universities – Semmelweis University among them – were included in the 2014 world ranking of Leiden University which is determined annually based on the scientific impact and the number of publications created by academic staff and researchers.

Semmelweis University – not even being on last year’s list – is the first among the Hungarian specialised universities on Leiden University’s 2014 ranking. The list consists of 750 institutions and Eötvös Lóránd University (ELTE) was the 540th, Semmelweis University (SE) the 541st, Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) the 561st, Debrecen University (DE) the 698th and Szeged University (SZTE) acquired the 707th place.

RS15177_KA-20140410-IMG_9596-fok-kari-napok-scrThis year’s ranking is led by Rockefeller, the MIT and Harvard. The Centre for Science and Technology Studies so far published a list annually ranking 500 universities – half of which were European institutions; however, this year they analysed 750 universities. The ranking order was determined based on the scientific activities, number of publications and the citation index of academic staff instead of analysing the performance of students. The list also takes into account which publications belong to the most cited 10% of the scientific articles published in that specific field.
