Detailed syllabus:

 

Dental, oral surgical sterilization, disinfection, infection control. Skin disinfection, surgical hand washing, prevention of iatrogenic infection. Local anesthetics types , indications for use,

contraindications. Infiltration anesthesia on the upper jaw. Anesthesia of the upper molar teeth, tuberal anesthesia. Procedure of infraorbital conduction anesthesia. Infiltration anesthesia on the lower jaw. Conduction anesthesia on the lower jaw. Terminal anesthesia of intraoral abscess. Intraligamentous anesthesia. Sedoanalgesia in dental use. Removal of single and multi- rooted teeth with forceps. Removal of roots with forceps. Removal of roots with surgical procedure. Recognition and treatment of alveolar osteitis. Closing opened sinus of tooth extraction. Removal root from sinus. Hemostasis with sutures. Indications, preparation, procedure of apicectomy of single root. Indications of retrograde root fillings. Transdental fixation, replantation, tooth transplantation. Surgical removal of lower wisdom tooth.

Requirements in Oral Surgery I. for 3rd-Year Dental Students in the 2nd Term of the Year 2016/2017

            a.         See the topics on a separate sheet.

b.         Attendance at the lectures and at the practicals is compulsory and will regularly be checked.

c.         In practical classes knowledge of the material presented will be tested at an oral midterm on the 6th week A pass in this midterm is obligatory for oral surgical treatment of patients. The midterm on the 6th week will be held during practice by the group supervisor. The topic of the midterm is theoretical and practical material of the first six weeks of this semester and last semester. In case of unsuccessful midterm result, there are 3 possibilities for a retake. The first two will with group supervisor and the third will be with the Head of the Department ( Dr. Árpád Joób-F.) or with Vice chief ( Dr. Attila Szücs). In case 3d unsuccessful retake, the semester will not be accepted and must be repeated.

A written midterm test will be held on week 10 at the venue and time of the lecture concerning the material covered in both terms of the third year. A pass in both midterms is the condition of acceptance of the term. Further oral and written testing will happen at the discretion of the teacher

The absences on week 6th and 10th has to be certified. In case of uncertified absences, the mark of that midterm would be considered as fail. This mark determines the final grade.

d.         The signature at the end of the term may be denied if the student

            –          missed more than 3 classes

            –          shows ignorance in the material presented at the classes.

          –            The student will be notified of the denial on week 12 as     latest.

e.         The practical marks will be assigned on the basis of attendance, diligence and the result of the midterms. The practical mark will be assigned during week 12. Testing to ameliorate this mark may be undertaken during the last week of the term at the discretion of the teacher. No changes can be made to the practical mark during the examination period.

f.          There is no examination at the end of the third year.

g.         The textbook ’Oral Surgery, Maxillofacial Surgery’ is recommended together with notes made at the practicals.

h.         The classes will be held in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (Mária u. 52.).

 

Requirements in Oral Surgery III. for 4th year Dental Students in the 2nd Term of the Year 2016/2017

  1. See the topics on a separate sheet.
  2. Attendance at the lectures and the practicals is compulsory and will regularly be checked.

In practical classes knowledge of the material presented at the lectures and practicals will regularly be tested. A written midterm test will be held on week 11 at the venue and time of the lecture concerning the material covered in the third and fourth years. A pass in the midterm is the condition of acceptance of the term. Several further oral or written tests will be held at the practicals at the discretion of the teacher.

  1. The signature at the end of the term may be denied if the student

                                                              i.      missed more than 3 lectures or practicals

                                                            ii.      shows ignorance in the material presented at the lectures and the practicals.

                                                          iii.      The student will be notified of the denial at the last but one week as latest.

  1. There is semifinal examination (a written test) at the end of the second term of the fourth year for those 4th students who commenced their studies in 2012 or later.
  2. The textbook ’Oral Surgery, Maxillofacial Surgery’ and notes made at the lectures and practicals.

 

Requirements in Oral Surgery V. for 5th year Dental Students in the 2nd Term of the Year 2016/2017

            a.         See the topics on a separate sheet.

b.                 Attendance at the lectures and the practicals is compulsory and will regularly be checked.

Practices:

– One week practice in the inpatient wards: see on a separate sheet.

c.                  In practical classes knowledge of the material presented at the lectures and practicals will regularly be tested.

d.                 The signature at the end of the term may be denied if the student

–          missed more than 3 lectures or practicals

–          shows ignorance in the material presented at the lectures and the practicals.

f.    There is a final examination at the end of the second term of   the fifth year.

g.    The textbook „Oral Surgery, Maxillofacial Surgery”

and notes made at the lectures and practicals.

 

 

The maximum number of absences in a semester is 3. More than 3 absences invalid the semester. During the semester three midterm examinations should be passed. Practical course grade: (five-scaled).
