The Institute of Languages for Specific Purposes provides the following services for PhD students and PhD candidates:

1. Intermediate (B2) level university English for Specific Purposes Final Examination for PhD students.
The examination consists of an oral interview, including self-introduction and a professional discussion about the student’s studies and career path, based on a professional CV submitted in advance to the Institute.

2. Threshold (A2–B1) level university German, French, Russian, Italian, Spanish, and Latin for Specific Purposes Final Examination (as a second language examination).
During the oral examination, the PhD student presents their PhD topic in the given foreign language in a 7-minute presentation based on a PowerPoint presentation submitted in advance to the Institute.
In the case of Latin, the examination focuses on the expansion and explanation of abbreviations used in medical science.

3. For all of the above examinations, consultation-based support for exam preparation is provided in all languages.

Examinations are held upon request at a pre-arranged time, and written certification of completion is issued. Candidates wishing to take an examination are kindly requested to contact the language examination coordinator of the Institute of Languages for Specific Purposes, Angelika Szabó, during both the teaching and examination periods at the following email address:

4. English language proofreading of scientific publications is provided at university expense, with a 10-working-day turnaround time, upon commission by the Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation, provided that PhD students submit their request to lsp@semmelweis.hu

5. English language proofreading of PhD theses and abstract books written in English is undertaken by a highly experienced native-speaker proofreader employed under contract, at a fee of HUF 8,500 per 60 minutes. Proofreading of posters and voice-over materials is also provided.
Students wishing to make use of this service should send their request to lsp@semmelweis.hu . Payment may also be arranged through internal cost transfer to the Institute of Languages for Specific Purposes.

6. Preparation for English-language presentations (conference lectures or poster presentations) is available in the form of consultations at a fee of HUF 8,500 per 60 minutes. Please contact szabo.angelika1@semmelweis.hu

The Institute of Languages for Specific Purposes provides the following services for the PhD students and PhD candidates of the Center for Translational Medicine:

English language proofreading of scientific publications is provided at university expense, with a 7-working-day turnaround time, upon commission by the Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation, provided that the supervisors of the PhD students submit their request to ctm.publication@semmelweis.hu. The language of correspondence is English.

The Institute of Languages for Specific Purposes provides the following services for the PhD students and PhD candidates of the Faculty of Health Sciences:

English language proofreading / translation of scientific publications is provided at faculty expense, with a turnaround time of 10 working days, provided that PhD students submit their request to publication.etk@semmelweis.hu . Where necessary, repeated rounds of language revision of the manuscript are also provided.

Paraphrasing of PhD theses and scientific publications written in English is provided at faculty expense, with the deadline determined on the basis of individual agreement. Requests related to this service should be sent to publication.etk@semmelweis.hu .
