We are looking for a candidate for a 4-year PhD project on the role of glymphatic brain clearance during sleep and wakefulness. The PhD will be based at Semmelweis University (Budapest) in collaboration with the Donders Institute (Nijmegen).
Tasks will involve:
– recruitment and following up on healthy research participants and hospital-based memory clinic patients;
– data acquisition (including night shifts in the sleep lab) for experiments on the role of neurovascular coupling and sleep oscillations for glymphatic brain clearance during both wakefulness and sleep;
– pre-processing and analysis of the resulting data.
Experience with electrophysiological recordings is very helpful, the willingness to participate in extended periods of data acquisition (including night shifts) is a strict requirement.
The first two years will have a focus on data acquisition and data organization/preprocessing in Nijmegen; whereas the final two years will consist in data analysis in Budapest. Salary will be according to Hungarian PhD standards at Semmelweis University during the entire PhD trajectory, plus a 50% research assistant position at the Donders Institute during the first two years to afford the higher living costs in the Netherlands.
