Dr. Györgyi Szabó: Experimental Modelling of Testicular Torsion and Investigation of Ischaemia–Reperfusion Injury (Experimental research)
Brief description of the topic:
Testicular torsion raises several important questions regarding the relationship between the severity and duration of ischaemia, subsequent reperfusion, and tissue viability. Using Laser Speckle Contrast Imaging (LSCI) to monitor tissue microcirculation, we aim to investigate the effects of the degree of testicular torsion and the duration of ischaemia on the preservation of testicular tissue. We also examine how reperfusion processes influence subsequent tissue viability and recovery.

Dr. Györgyi Szabó: Investigation of Adhesion Formation and Potential Strategies for Its Prevention (Experimental research)
Brief description of the topic:
Intra-abdominal adhesions may develop following surgical procedures, tissue injury, or inflammatory processes. Injured tissues may adhere to each other or to otherwise intact tissues, while the omentum frequently covers the damaged area. Severe adhesions may abnormally connect adjacent tissues and organs, restrict their physiological movement, and cause pain due to tissue tension. These complications can significantly impair patients’ quality of life and may lead to functional disorders.

The aim of our research is to better understand the mechanisms underlying adhesion formation and to investigate novel approaches for its prevention.

How have scientific and ethical perspectives changed throughout history, ultimately leading to the development of modern standards for the protection and welfare of laboratory animals?

In addition to examining the evolution of ethical considerations surrounding animal experimentation, this project explores historical attitudes toward animals and their use from the perspectives of the general public, scientists, physicians, and philosophers of different historical periods.

Dr. Györgyi Szabó: The History of Wound Care from Antiquity to the Present Day (Literature research)
Brief description of the topic:
This project explores the fascinating evolution of wound care throughout human history. How did—and how do—traditional and indigenous societies prevent wound infections? What materials, natural substances, and techniques have been used to treat wounds? Which traditional practices have subsequently been incorporated into, or contributed to the development of, modern wound management?

The research will examine the development of wound care from ancient civilizations to modern medicine, with particular attention to wound management practices among traditional and indigenous populations and their potential connections to contemporary wound care.
