LC – Language Club
The Semmelweis University Students’ Union (HÖK) organises the Language Club in cooperation with the Institute of Languages for Specific Purposes.
The programme began from a practical observation: many students would like to use a foreign language more often than regular classes allow. The Language Club gives them a regular setting for this. Students meet in small groups, speak with peers from different faculties and language backgrounds, and gain more routine in using a foreign language in everyday situations.
The languages currently offered include English, German, Hungarian, French and Spanish, depending on the available tutor groups.
The sessions are led by student tutors. Their role is not to replace formal language teaching, but to create occasions for conversation and to help participants use the language more actively. This peer-led format is one of the main features of the programme, as the meetings remain close to students’ own needs and experience.
The Language Club is a student project organised through the Students’ Union. The Institute of Languages for Specific Purposes supports it by coordinating the professional background of the programme, advising the tutors and contributing methodological guidance when appropriate. This division of roles is essential: the Students’ Union provides the student framework, while the Institute ensures professional language-teaching support.
