Dear Medical Student,

We are pleased to inform you that the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Semmelweis University has approved the call for demonstrator applications from the Institute of Languages for Specific Purposes for the 2025/26 academic year (from September, for 10 months, 20 hours per month).

If you are passionate about languages, now is your chance to apply as a demonstrator for the following courses:

Medical language courses taught in English, German, French, Italian, Russian or Spanish within the Hungarian-language program
Medical Hungarian language courses taught in the English and German programs
– Courses in medical terminology

  • assisting instructors in preparing classes and research related to medical language teaching
  • collecting and organizing authentic language materials
  • compiling thematic glossaries
  • digitizing and processing medical documentation
  • contributing to the development of terminology databases
  • helping with the supervision of tests and written exams, and assisting in the organization of the annual Medical Terminology Competition
  • participating as simulated patients to support instructors in creating authentic medical communication scenarios and practicing patient-centered diagnosis delivery in both Hungarian and foreign languages

Expectations for demonstrators:

  1. a) at least second-year students;
    b) a GPA of at least 3.51 in the previous two semesters;
    c) for Hungarian and modern language courses: native or C1/C2-level proficiency in the given language; advantage: participation and excellent grades in courses such as LSP I-IV, or Medical Language Exam Prep; 
    d) for terminology courses: average of 4.5 or higher in or Medical and Specialist Terminology; advantage: high placement or >80% result in Latin/Terminology competitions; 
    e) high-level familiarity with the relevant language for modern languages; for terminology: solid knowledge of anatomy, clinical, and prescription vocabulary; 
    f) exemplary behavior and an active, enthusiastic attitude towards community life.

A valid application includes:

  • a completed and signed demonstrator application form (available for download from the Faculty website
  • a motivation letter (half to max. one page)

Suggested content of the motivation letter: experience related to medical language (e.g., clinical practice, volunteer work, international exchange, Profex exam, Latin/Terminology competition placement), and your reasons for applying as a demonstrator.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a personal interview in mid-July. The date will be arranged via email.

Suitability assessments will be conducted by instructors of the Institute, and applicants will be notified of the decision by the end of July at the latest.

The final decision on appointments lies with the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. Results will be announced at the beginning of September.
