Assistant Professor (Adjunktus)

Institute of Biostatistics and Network Science

Place of work: H-1085 Budapest, 22 Baross Street, as well as the operational areas of Semmelweis University in Budapest.

Key responsibilities of the position:

Participation in teaching and academic activities (e.g. leading practical sessions, delivering lectures, supervising student research projects and PhD candidates, continuing education), as well as in scientific work, in particular:

  • providing methodological support for data-intensive biomedical and health science research requiring advanced data science methods, with a particular focus on computer vision, natural language processing, predictive analytics, artificial intelligence, and network science
  • conducting research in the fields of biostatistics, data science, and network science, utilizing the rich data resources of Semmelweis University as well as independent data collection
  • preparing research reports, documentation, and scientific publications; participating in dissemination activities and delivering conference presentations
  • contributing to the development of curricula and educational materials in the field of health data science, and participating in teaching related subjects
  • collaborating with internal and external partners, and participating in in-person and online meetings
  • mentoring and supervising students and early-career researchers

Application requirements

  • PhD degree in a quantitative field (e.g. applied mathematics, statistics, computer science, physics)
  • active, negotiation-level proficiency in English
  • advanced knowledge of the Python programming language
  • knowledge of statistical and machine learning methods, with practical experience in their application
  • proven and well-documented scientific track record, including:
    • in the case of theoretical institute appointments: first-author publications in reputable national and international journals and documented presentations at international conferences
  • teaching experience at the university level
  • interest in health sciences and biomedical research
  • accurate and precise work style
  • results-oriented mindset
  • ability to manage multiple tasks in parallel efficiently

Advantages in the evaluation of applications:

  • knowledge of and experience with computer vision and natural language processing (NLP) methods
  • knowledge of and experience with advanced statistical methods (e.g. survival analysis, meta-analysis, epidemiological models, Bayesian statistics)
  • advanced knowledge of the R programming language
