Our fellow students were not left without some icy events. The annual Ice Carnival was held at the City Park Ice Rink once again this year on February 11th, with the theme being “Streaming Universe”. Those who love skating had two worlds to immerse themselves in: the atmosphere that comes with winter, as well as the world of streaming, where everyone can truly be themselves, all in the setting of a carnival. The quality is illustrated excellently by ticket sales, which had to be closed down a day prior to the event, making the event use the Ice Rink at its maximum capacity.

The occasion began at 8:30 PM, with people starting to run laps as soon as the gates opened, while several surprises awaited visitors. These included treasure hunts among other things. This quickly led to rehydration and a supply of carbohydrates being necessary, something provided by a bar with an array of delicious dishes. Days in February tend to still be rather chilly, with this being no exception. But the cold weather stood no chance against the event’s fiery atmosphere, something the DJs of the event and their evocative tunes contributed to. This was also the case for those who chose to slide into the crowd in costumes. Some dressed up as Pikachu, Mario, or even a flamingo to win the prize for the most creative outfit in a costume contest, making the City Park Ice Rink truly colorful with their presence. Afterwards, the people who put on a show were the members of Budapest Ice Hockey Academy (BJA), who are the current leaders of Erste Liga, Hungary’s top ice hockey league. There, we could bear witness to a very close matchup. Altogether, we had everything needed for a terrific night out, had the chance to see countless smiling faces, and it was uplifting to witness this boundless joyful energy first-hand.

We are very happy that so many of you joined us this year, and we kindly hope you’ll do so in the next one as well. But until then, fortunately, there will be lots of times when we can see each other around, with the International Semmelweis Carnival, to be held on 27th February, being among them. See you there!
