1. Joker

The Golden Lion award winning Joker origin story, based on the Batman: The Killing Joke comic (1988) has finally arrived. It’s the first R-rated movie in the Batman universe, which gives a lot of hope after the success of Logan (2017) and Deadpool (2016). The movie tells the story of how Arthur Fleck, the failed comedian, becomes the iconic villain. It’s already critically acclaimed and Joaquin Phoenix’s performance is also highly praised. I’m not saying it’s a must watch, but it probably is.

  1. Monos

And lastly, on a more serious note, this movie is recommended for fans of cinematography, it’s far from being a summer flick. The movie follows the adventure of an armed guerrilla group made up of children, making camp on top of a tropical mountain. Their job is to guard a prisoner of war and a cow. The drama is based on the relationship dynamics of the group members and the mysterious organization above them. The beautiful cinematography is undeniably one of the strongest points of Monos.
