How can I set up eduroam?

To connect to the eduroam Wi-Fi network, each device must be configured separately. The setup process may vary depending on the type of device you are using. This is a one-time setup process and differs from connecting to a regular Wi-Fi network.

Windows

Steps to connect on Windows 10 / 11

1. Select the Wi-Fi network

  • Click the Wi-Fi icon on the taskbar (bottom-right corner of the screen).

  • Select eduroam from the list of available networks.

2. Connect to the network

  • Check “Connect automatically”.

  • Click “Connect”.

3. Enter your credentials

You will be prompted to enter your login credentials:

USERNAME
SEKA_ID@semmelweis.hu

Example:

abcd1234@semmelweis.hu

Please note:

  • This is not an email address; it is the required username format.

  • We recommend using lowercase letters.

  • For students, the SEKA_ID is typically your Neptun ID.

  • For staff members, use your institutional ID.

PASSWORD

Your eduroam password is the same as your SEKA / O365 password.

Click “OK” or “Connect”.

4. Accept the certificate

  • A security warning may appear.

  • Select “Connect” or “Yes” to proceed.

5. Successful connection

Once the connection has been established successfully, the network status will show “Connected”.

Mac

Steps to connect on macOS

To use the eduroam network on macOS, you need to install the authentication profile provided by Semmelweis University. The setup process only takes a few minutes.

1. Check for an existing eduroam profile

Before starting the installation, we recommend checking whether an eduroam profile is already installed on your device.

  1. Open System Settings.

  2. Go to GeneralDevice Management.

  3. If an existing eduroam profile is listed, we recommend removing it before installing the new profile.

You can also check whether eduroam appears in the list of available Wi-Fi networks.

2. Download the eduroam installer

  1. Go to cat.eduroam.org.

  2. Click “Download your eduroam installer”.

  3. In the institution search field, enter Semmelweis University.

  4. Select Semmelweis University from the list.

  5. Download the installer for macOS.

3. Install the profile

  1. Open the downloaded file. Then open System Settings and go to GeneralDevice Management, where you will find the eduroam profile.

  2. Double-click the profile. In the window that opens, click “Install” in the bottom-left corner to install the eduroam profile.

  3. macOS may ask you to confirm the installation and enter your device administrator password.

4. Enter your login credentials

During the installation, you will need to enter your eduroam login credentials.

5. Connect to the eduroam network

Once the profile has been installed successfully, macOS will automatically connect to the eduroam network. You can check the connection status using the Wi-Fi icon in the top-right corner of the screen.

6. Check your connection

You can check whether your network connection is working properly by running a speed test for example at speedtest.net.

If the speed test runs successfully, your eduroam connection is working correctly.

 

Troubleshooting

If you are unable to connect to the eduroam network:

  1. Remove eduroam from your saved Wi-Fi networks.
  2. Remove any existing eduroam profile under General → Device Management.
  3. Restart the installation process from cat.eduroam.org.
  4. Make sure your username is entered in the correct format: SEKA_ID@semmelweis.hu
  5. Make sure you have entered your SEKA / O365 password correctly.

Android

Steps to connect on Android

To use the eduroam network on an Android device, we recommend using the official geteduroam app. The setup process only takes a few minutes.

1. Install the geteduroam app

  1. Open the Google Play Store.

  2. Search for the following app: geteduroam

  3. Install the app on your Android device.

An active internet connection (mobile data or another Wi-Fi network) is required to install the app.

2. Select your institution

  1. Open the geteduroam app.

  2. In the institution search field, enter:
    Semmelweis University

  3. Select Semmelweis University from the list.

The app will then automatically prepare the eduroam profile configuration.

3. Enter your login credentials

The app will prompt you to enter your eduroam login credentials.

Once permission is granted, your device can automatically connect to the eduroam network whenever it is available.

5. Check your connection

You can check the connection status under:

SettingsWi-Fi

The eduroam network should appear as the active network.

You can also check whether your connection is working properly by running a speed test for example at speedtest.net.

If the website loads and the speed test runs successfully, your eduroam connection is working correctly.

5. Check your connection

You can check the connection status under:

SettingsWi-Fi

The eduroam network should appear as the active network.
