Personal lifestyle counseling at the Health Promotion Center

One of the main goals of Semmelweis University is to improve the health status and health behavior of university citizens. Within the framework of the Family-Friendly University Program, specialists from the Health Development Center provide individual lifestyle counseling.

During the first consultation, the specialists assess your health and perform a professional body composition analysis with the Inbody 270 device, then create a comprehensive health plan. This may include nutritional counseling, diet planning, periodic consultations with a certified nutritionist or dietitian, and an individual or group exercise program.

Consultations are available online and in person, and require an appointment. All further information related to the consultation is available by clicking on the login interface.

Dietary advice for diabetes prevention

Diabetes, also known as diabetes mellitus, is a chronic disease that is caused by a problem with the production or effectiveness of the hormone insulin, which regulates blood sugar levels in the body. There are several types of diabetes (type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes), of which our lifestyle also plays a role in preventing type 2 diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes develops when the body does not produce enough insulin or the cells cannot use insulin effectively (insulin resistance). Obesity and a sedentary lifestyle play a major role in its development. Untreated diabetes can lead to serious health problems such as cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, vision problems and nerve damage.

How can the risk of developing diabetes be reduced?

  • Healthy eating:
    • Avoid foods and drinks high in sugar.
    • Eat lots of fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and low-fat proteins.
    • Reduce your intake of saturated fats and trans fats.
    • Sign up for a dietetic consultation, where experts from the Institute of Pancreatic Diseases will help you create a healthy diet! (Sign up: csaladbarat@semmelweis.hu)
  • Exercise regularly!
    • Do at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise (e.g. brisk walking, swimming, cycling) per week!
    • Strength training is recommended twice a week.
    • Sports opportunities at the university: HERE
  • Stress Management:
