What we offer

  • Optimisation of pellet production composition and process (DoE)
  • Investigation of the micro- and macrostructure of the pellets produced (determination of shape parameters by image analysis, bulk density, in vitro drug release)
  • Preparation and testing of drug formulation from pellets

We have decades of experience in formulating multiparticle systems. Our Institute has been involved in several formulation development projects.

Our equipment

  • Layering and Drying process: Aeromatic Fielder fluid bed model STREA 1 (Aeromatic-Fielder AG, Switzerland) – With plastic chamber (max 2 kg capacity), bottom and top spraying option, different nozzle diameters (d=0.5; 0.8 and 1.2 mm) available
  • Extrusion: Caleva Multi Lab extruder (Caleva Process Solutions Ltd., Sturminster Newton, UK) – To produce the homogeneous powder mixture required for extrusion, we have a lab-scale V-blender and a high-speed mixer (Stephan UMC 5).
    5 various die hole diameters (0.8 mm; 1.0 mm; 1.5 mm; 2.00 mm and 2.5 mm) can be built into the single screw extruder.
  • Spheronization: Spheronizer (Locost GSZF-AK spheronizer; Locost Kft., Tiszaalpár, Hungary)
  • In vitro drug release: Hanson SR8-PlusTM Dissolution Test Station with E-probe; AutoPlus Maximizer and Multifill collector, Hanson Research, USA
  • Shape parameters: Keyence VHX digital microscope or Nikon SMZ 1000 stereomicroscope. Shape parameters can be determined using ImagePro Plus 4.5 software developed by Media Cybernetics, USA. Measurments with Fiji ImageJ also possible.
