 to be held at Semmelweis University, Budapest Nagyvárad square 4. between

12-13-14 February, 2026.

We would like to draw students’ attention that, in accordance with the requirements of the National Scientific Students’ Associations Conference (OTDK), for this year’s conference application it is also mandatory to provide the educational identification numbers (an 11-digit number starting with 7) of the applying students and their supervisor(s) as well!

The Organizers reserve their rights to make changes to the event programme and conference format. 

 

Terms of application

  • the student is a registered member of the Students’ Scientific Association at Semmelweis University; reported by the TDK coordinator of the institute/department
  • a presentation can not have more than two authors and two supervisors
  • a student can be the second author to only one presentation
  • a student can be the first author of only one presentation from a certain institute. If the student performs TDK work at two different institutes, they can be first author of a maximum of 2 presentations.
  • if qualified for the national round (OTDK), the order of the authors can not be changed, and one student can only apply with one presentation as first author for the OTDK
  • people enrolled in Ph.D studies can not be authors of a presentation. This rule does not apply to students enrolled in MD-PhD programmes, who are still undergraduates.
  • only those are allowed to present at the conference, who have taken the “TDK munka” course for the semester

 

The language of the conference

  • Hungarian
  • English

Complete english-speaking sections can be organized in the case of sufficient number of announced presentations.

Conditions of application (no deviations allowed):

  • The student must be a member of the Semmelweis University Scientific Students’ Association (TDK), and their TDK membership must be reported to the Scientific Students’ Council by the research institution.

  • Only those who have enrolled in the TDK work subject in the Neptun system during the semester of the conference are eligible to give a presentation at the conference.

  • A maximum of two authors and two supervisors are allowed for each presentation.

  • A student can be the first author of only one presentation from the same research institution; if the student conducts research at multiple institutions, they may be the first author for a maximum of two presentations (a student can be a TDK member at up to two different research institutions simultaneously).

  • If a student qualifies for nomination to the National Scientific Students’ Associations Conference (OTDK), the first author of the presentation submitted at the SE TDK Conference must be the same as the first author of the presentation at the OTDK (no changes are allowed among the authors). A student may participate in the OTDK with only one presentation.

  • A student can be a co-author only once at most.

  • PhD students cannot be author or co-author of a TDK presentation. The exception is students enrolled in MD-PhD training who are still actively participating in undergraduate education.

Abstract requirements:

  • needs to include applied methods and details of numerical results, up to 2400 characters (including spaces)
  • abstract contains: Introduction, Aim, Methods, Results, Conclusions sections, clearly indicated
  • case reports will not be accepted
  • abstracts also submitted in previous years (with the same content) will not be accepted
  • during presentations, projectors can be used to display slides

Submitted abstracts undergo a preliminary review process by a professional board led by the president of the Students’ Scientific Association Council. Authors, whose submitted abstract is not accepted will be informed about the decision.

 

Information about classified abstracts:

  • based on the advice of the Innovation Directorate of Semmelweis University, students can initiate the classification of their abstracts, if it involves intellectual property with patent-potential
  • upon checking all submitted abstracts, the Innovation Directorate may also recommend the classification of individual abstracts that authors are not obliged to accept
  • classified abstracts will not be presented in the conference program (Orvosképzés journal), or they will appear in a modified form
  • sections at the conference are open to all audience, however in sections containing classified abstracts, members of the audience are asked to sign a privacy form, and any form of recording is prohibited

IMPORTANT!

Submission of classified abstracts to the National Students’ Scientific Conference (OTDK) is not possible.

Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Principles

AI tools (e.g., large language models, image generators, code and statistical assistants) may be used only transparently, ethically, and accountably. Hidden use of AI is considered a breach of research integrity.
The author bears full responsibility for the content of the abstract and presentation even if AI tools were used.
AI cannot be listed as an author; it cannot assume legal or ethical responsibilities (e.g., liability, conflict of interest, copyright).

Mandatory Declaration

Every submitted abstract must include in the “Declarations” section a clear AI usage statement specifying:

  • The specific tool/model and version used;

  • The purpose and extent of use (e.g., language style refinement, brainstorming, draft of methods section, image generation).

Sample Declaration

“During the preparation of this research, we used [tool name, version] AI for [purpose]. The content generated by AI was reviewed and modified by the authors as necessary; the authors take full responsibility for the research.”


Presentation Duration:

Presentations are 10 minutes long, followed by 5 minutes of discussion.

Submitted abstracts undergo preliminary review by a professional committee led by the Chair of the Scientific Students’ Council. Applicants whose abstracts are not accepted will be notified.

Scoring Criteria for Presentations:

  • Maximum score for a presentation: 25 points

  • Abstract score: up to 5 points

  • Content quality score: up to 10 points

  • Presentation and discussion skills score: up to 10 points

Abstract (0-5 points):
The abstract must comply with formal requirements, use precise and correct language, include all essential information present in the presentation, and align with scientific standards.

Content (0-10 points):
The topic should be current and significant to the field, possibly relevant to therapy or understanding disease pathomechanisms. Results are presented objectively and concisely. The presenter cites current literature during the discussion, employs appropriate modern methods, and uses supporting visual documentation that is clear and explanatory. Statistical methods validate the presenter’s claims convincingly and correctly.

Presentation Skills, Discussion Ability, Style (0-10 points):
The presentation should be continuous and comprehensible, with an articulate speech style. The presenter answers questions effectively, demonstrating scholarly knowledge and hands-on experience. Active participation throughout the session is valued. To facilitate judging, it is recommended that presenters introduce themselves before Q&A.

The scoring system was approved by the Scientific Students’ Council of Semmelweis University in April 2006.
