Between 18 and 20 September 2026, the delegation of Semmelweis University participated in the 2026 International Symposium on AI for Dental Education in Hangzhou. The event was hosted by the Stomatology Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine and the School of Stomatology, Zhejiang University, both important partners of Semmelweis University in China.
The symposium coincided with the 50th anniversary of the host institution, giving the event special significance. Colleagues from several countries gathered in Hangzhou to discuss the application of artificial intelligence in dental education and to explore new possibilities for future teaching cooperation.
A key moment of the symposium was the official launch of Zhejiang University School of Stomatology’s “Intelligence Without Borders” Future Classroom. The initiative was launched jointly by Wang Qingwen, Executive Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice Dean of Zhejiang University School of Medicine; Richard Cannon, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Otago; Dr. Bence Tamás Szabó, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at Semmelweis University; and Zhu Songsong, Dean of Zhejiang University School of Stomatology and President of the Stomatology Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine. Institutional leaders and invited guests also attended the ceremony.
The launch of the Future Classroom opened new opportunities for teaching exchange and international cooperation beyond geographical borders. The initiative reflects the growing role of digital tools and artificial intelligence in shaping the future of dental education.
During the symposium, the Semmelweis University delegation offered its sincere congratulations to its Chinese partners on the 50th anniversary of the host institution and expressed its appreciation for the invitation and the warm welcome. The event provided a valuable platform for sharing educational experience, exchanging teaching concepts and discussing future cooperation.
The participation of Semmelweis University in the Hangzhou symposium further strengthened the existing partnership with Zhejiang University in the field of dental education. Building on the continuous exchange between the institutions, the event contributed to the development of Hungarian-Chinese academic dialogue and created new opportunities for cooperation in teaching, research and clinical practice.
Professional exchanges between Semmelweis University and its Chinese partners are set to continue. The University looks forward to welcoming Chinese colleagues at the digital academic conference to be held in Hungary on 20–21 November 2026, where participants will have the opportunity to share technologies, clinical experience and educational approaches in the field of oral medicine.
