On 22 June 2026, Semmelweis University hosted a delegation from Khan-Uul District Hospital in Mongolia. The purpose of the professional visit was to facilitate the exchange of experience, strengthen institutional relations, and explore future cooperation opportunities in the fields of healthcare delivery, medical education, and research.

The delegation was led by Ms. Taznaa Enkhzaya, Director of Khan-Uul District Hospital, who previously pursued her studies at Semmelweis University. During the visit, the guests gained insight into the operation of Hungarian healthcare institutions and were introduced to key areas of paediatric care, surgical care, and transplantation medicine.

The first stop of the programme was the Heim Pál National Paediatric Institute, where Prof. Dr. László Szabó, Head of the Department of Paediatrics and Pulmonology and Emeritus Professor of Semmelweis University, presented the institution’s structure, clinical responsibilities, and ongoing innovation efforts. The delegation was introduced to the Hungarian paediatric emergency care system and visited several clinical units, including the Department of Surgery. Attention was given to specialised intensive care provision, including advanced treatment modalities for critically ill children. Discussions also touched upon challenges in human healthcare resources and the training and supply of medical professionals.

The institutional overview continued at the Department of Surgery, Transplantation and Gastroenterology of Semmelweis University, where Assistant Professor Dr. Gergely Huszty presented the department’s clinical, educational, and research activities, providing insight into one of Hungary’s leading centres for complex surgical procedures. The presentation covered the increasingly widespread use of robot-assisted surgery introduced at Semmelweis University in 2022, efforts aimed at increasing the number of living-donor transplant procedures, as well as the department’s outstanding level of equipment in gastroenterology by European standards. Emphasis was placed on patient education programmes supporting preoperative preparation and, on the department’s, innovative clinical solutions.

The next stop of the professional programme was the Tűzoltó Street Paediatric Clinic of Semmelweis University, where Deputy Director Dr. Tamás Constantin welcomed the delegation. The discussions focused on the care of critically ill children, paediatric haematology and oncology services, as well as specialised home care and nursing programmes. The guests were also introduced to the institution’s national role in the treatment of paediatric cancer patients and in coordinating complex paediatric care services.

As the final programme element, the delegation visited the state-of-the-art Basic Medical Science Center of Semmelweis University.
