As part of its professional tour in China, the delegation of Semmelweis University visited Guangzhou Medical University and the Affiliated Stomatology Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University on 8 and 9 June. The two-day programme provided an opportunity to further expand professional dialogue in the field of dental education and to explore future forms of cooperation between the institutions.

Guangzhou Medical University is one of the major medical universities in southern China. Founded in 1958, the university has developed into an important centre of medical education, research and clinical care in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Since 2022, it has been part of China’s Double First-Class initiative and is also a member of the Guangdong High-Level University Development Program. Its network of affiliated hospitals, including the Affiliated Stomatology Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, provides a strong clinical background for education, research and patient care.
The Semmelweis University delegation included Laura Ződi, Levente Béla Vágó and Dr. Xinda Li. The programme began on 8 June with a campus visit at Guangzhou Medical University, where the delegation had the opportunity to gain insight into the university’s educational environment, institutional profile and international outlook. The visit continued with a dinner, which provided an informal setting for further professional exchange and relationship-building.
On behalf of the host institution, the Semmelweis delegation was welcomed by several senior representatives of Guangzhou Medical University and its Affiliated Stomatology Hospital, including Zhang Qingbin, Secretary of the Party Committee, who accompanied the delegation throughout the programme and also delivered a presentation on the institution’s activities and international outlook. The programme was also attended by Ma Xiaojie, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, who likewise accompanied the delegation during the visit, as well as Li Jiang, Dean, and Liu Fengping, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee.
On 9 June, the delegation visited the Affiliated Stomatology Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University in the framework of the Sino-Hungarian “Belt and Road” Dental School Exchange Program. The programme served as an important platform for discussing possible cooperation in dental education, clinical training, professional exchange and international mobility.
The visit was particularly significant as it connected Semmelweis University with another important dental education and clinical partner in Guangzhou. Through the campus visit, professional exchange programme and informal discussions, the two sides were able to identify shared interests and future opportunities for collaboration.
The meetings at Guangzhou Medical University and its Affiliated Stomatology Hospital formed an important part of Semmelweis University’s China professional tour. They contributed to strengthening the University’s presence in China and supported the development of new academic and clinical links in the field of dental education.
