As part of its professional tour in China, the delegation of Semmelweis University held a meeting with representatives of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital on 5 June. The visit was an important preparatory step in building future cooperation with one of China’s leading medical education and clinical institutions.
Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine has a long-standing tradition in medical education, with historical roots dating back to the late 19th century. Its predecessor institutions played a significant role in the development of modern medical training in China, and in 2005, Shanghai Second Medical University was integrated into Shanghai Jiao Tong University, forming today’s School of Medicine. Shanghai Jiao Tong University is internationally recognized as one of China’s leading research universities, ranked 40th in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026 and 49th in the Medical and Health subject ranking.
The professional programme took place at Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. Established in 1920, the hospital has developed into a major comprehensive teaching hospital and is widely recognized for its strengths in stomatology, plastic and reconstructive surgery, orthopedics, ophthalmology, and otorhinolaryngology-head and neck surgery.
