2 days. 34 people. 12 universities.

In early February, representatives of 12 European universities came together in the (mostly) sunny Murcia for EUniWell’s very first Institutional Coordinators’ (ICs) and Work Package Coordinators’ (WPCs) meeting. All they needed was a well-put-together agenda, lots of coffee and a great international atmosphere to get to work. Once these prerequisites were met, the La Merced campus of the University of Murcia was no longer only a place for education – it also became a shared space for discussing the future and vision of a truly European University Alliance.

The two-day workshop was not only about reviewing our progress already made in EUniWell but also our shared future together. Participants were given separate tables, lots of colorful post-its, and a set of pretty complex questions.

  • How does EUniWell remain sustainable?
  • How can institutional priorities and alliance-level objectives remain aligned?
  • And most importantly, how can we ensure that collaboration translates into tangible impact across education, research, mobility, and digital development?

Questions like these remind us that European cooperation is not an abstract concept – it requires deliberate planning, evaluation of what works and what needs revision and refinement. This is exactly why the central theme of our discussions was financial and operational sustainability.

For Semmelweis University, participation in strategic conversations like these is not merely representational. It is an opportunity to actively shape how European university alliances function in practice. Institutional coordination means translating alliance-level decisions into local implementation while simultaneously integrating institutional perspectives into collective decision-making processes. It is not always an easy task, but if we are to build the multi-campus European higher education system we envisioned, then all the effort made is worthwhile.

What’s an IC and WPC in EUniWell? Get to know us!

EUniWell’s activities are structured across thematic Work Packages (WPs), each focusing on a specific dimension of well-being – from education and research to mobility, digital development and communication. Each Work Package brings together experts from the EUniWell partner universities.

  • Work Package Coordinators (WPCs) ensure that activities within their thematic area move forward in a coherent and structured way. They coordinate the teams involved, monitor progress, and report to the alliance’s central governance bodies.
  • Institutional Coordinators (ICs) operate at university level. Serving as the main interface between the Alliance and their home institution, they oversee institutional engagement in EUniWell. They coordinate across Work Packages, support local colleagues involved in alliance activities, ensure alignment with institutional priorities, and facilitate communication between the university and the Alliance.

In short, while WPCs lead thematic work across institutions, ICs ensure that each university’s contribution remains coherent, visible, and strategically aligned.

Meet your EUniWell IC at Semmelweis University!

Hi, I’m Fanni Matyasovszki, and I serve as Semmelweis University’s EUniWell Institutional Coordinator.

My role is to connect Semmelweis University with the broader EUniWell Alliance. This means identifying what our university can contribute to the Alliance, supporting colleagues involved in various Work Packages, and ensuring that EUniWell initiatives are meaningfully integrated into our institutional context.

If you are curious about how to get involved in a European University Alliance – whether through education, research, mobility or collaborative projects – feel free to reach out.

Let’s talk EUniWell over coffee!
