Semmelweis University continues to rank among the world’s top institutions in Medical and Health Sciences, securing a place in the top 250 of the Times Higher Education (THE) World University subject rankings for 2025, maintaining its position from last year. Improving its previous ranking by 26 places, the university now stands at 206th place, making it not only the top-ranked Hungarian university in this field but also the leading institution in the Central and Eastern European region.

The Times Higher Education (THE) World University subject rankings assess institutions across 11 disciplines. In the Medical and Health category, which covers Semmelweis University’s field of expertise, the ranking includes the 1,150 best higher education institutions from 102 countries. This year, Semmelweis University has once again secured a top 250 position, improving its standing to 206th place, a 26-place rise from last year. The university has shown improvement in nearly all indicators, particularly in publication and citation metrics.

With this achievement, Semmelweis University remains the highest-ranked Hungarian institution in the subject rankings. Among other Hungarian universities, the University of Pécs ranks between 401-500, while the University of Debrecen and the University of Szeged both fall within the 501-600 range.

Semmelweis also holds the top position in the Central and Eastern European region, surpassing Charles University (Czech Republic), Wrocław Medical University (Poland), and Jagiellonian University (Poland).
