A delegation from Shanghai General Hospital, led by its president, Prof. Xingdong Zheng, visited Semmelweis University on 11-12 September 2024.

Beyond mutual introductions, the primary purpose of the visit was to explore the extension of cooperation in the fields of general medicine, cardiology, and sports medicine.

Shanghai General Hospital, one of the largest hospitals in China, was founded in 1864 and currently operates with around 2,600 hospital beds and a staff of 4,000 across 48 departments. In 2017, it treated more than 3.77 million outpatients and over 110,000 inpatients, as well as performing 80,000 surgical operations. In addition, the institution is outstanding in the field of clinical innovations.

During the meeting, potential areas of cooperation were identified, including cardiology, sports medicine, oncology, short-term training programs, and joint publications. Following the meeting, the delegation members visited the Center for Translational Medicine, the Városmajor Heart and Vascular Center, the Department of Traumatology, and the Institute of Pancreatic Disorders.
