On 6 October 2010, a four-member delegation from Taiwain’s Taipei Medical University (TMU) headed by President Wen-Ta Chiu visited Semmelweis University in order to sign a Memorandum of Agreement for cooperation between the two institutions. The delegation also included International Dean Peter Chang and Mr. Jung-Chin Lin, CEO of the Taiwan Tung-Yang Biopharm pharmaceutical company.

As a special honour, Dr. Tzay-Jinn Chen, Deputy Minister of Taiwan’s Ministry of Health and his delegation, as well as Ms. Marietta Kao Liau, Head of the Taipei Representative Office in Budapest, attended the meeting and signing ceremony as observers.
The delegation was received by Vice-Rector for Education and International Affairs Miklós Kellermayer, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Zoltán Zsolt Nagy and Director of International Relations Gyula Sümeghy.
After the official discussions, the guests had the opportunity to meet some of the Taiwanese students currently studying at Semmelweis University.

The TMU delegation’s visit to Semmelweis University concluded with a tour of the 1st Department of Pathology and Experimental Cancer Research by Director András Matolcsy.
The newly signed Agreement, which is the culmination of months of hard work and discussions on both sides, opens the door to future collaboration and exchange programmes between the two universities in education, research and health care.
