Requirements in Oral Surgery I. for 3rd Year Dental Students in the 2nd Term of the Year 2019/2020

a. See the topics on a separate sheet.
b. Attendance of the practices is compulsory and will be regularly checked.
Attendance of the lectures is not compulsory. It will be randomly checked but the absences does not affect the final grade of the semester.
c. In practical classes knowledge of the material presented will be tested in the oral midterm on the 6th week. A pass in this midterm is obligatory for participating in oral surgical treatment of patients. The midterm on the 6th week will be held during practice by the group supervisor. The topic of the midterm is theoretical and practical material of the first six weeks of this semester and previous semester. In case of unsuccessful midterm result, there are 3 possibilities for a retake. The first two will be with the group supervisor and the third will be with the head of the Outpatient ward, ( Dr. Árpád Joób-F.) or his vice-head (Dr. Kinga Bérczy). In case of 3 unsuccessful retakes, the semester will not be accepted and must be repeated.
d. A written midterm test will be held on week 9 (01.04.2020) at the venue and time of the lecture covering the 5th and 6th semesters. A pass in both midterms is the condition for acceptance of the term.
e. Further oral and written tests may take place at the discretion of the teacher.
f. The absences on week 6th and 10th have to be certified. In case of uncertified absences, the mark of that midterm would be considered as „failed”. This mark determines the final grade. In case of failed midterm there are two possibilities to retake (except as written in “point c”).
g. Absences with doctor-certification count as absence, but in this case it can be made up with other groups.
h. The signature at the end of the term may be denied if a student:
– misses more than 3 practices.
– shows ignorance in the material presented at the classes- this is evaluated by the practice leader (specialist of dento-alveolar surgery).
– the student will be notified of the denial on week 13 the latest.
– the average of the midterm’s grades is below 2 (pass).
i. Usage of cell phones during the time of the practices is prohibited. If the student uses a mobile phone despite the warning of the practice leader, they cannot continue the given practice and have to leave the practice hall immediately. This dismissal is equal with an absence which takes into account of the permitted (maximum 3) absences in a semester. For taking notes during the time of the practices students can use: tablets, notebooks, small laptops.
j. The practical marks will be given on the basis of attendance, diligence and the results of the midterms. The practical mark will be announced during week 13. The last opportunity to improve this mark is during the last week of the term at the discretion of the teacher. No changes can be made to the practical mark after the end of the term.
k. There is no examination at the end of the 6th semester.
l. The textbook ’Oral Surgery, Maxillofacial Surgery’ is recommended together with notes made at the practicals and lectures.
m. The classes will be held in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (Mária street 52.).

FOK IV.

Requirements in Oral Surgery III. for 4th year dental students in the 2nd term of the year 2019/2020

b. Attendance of the practices is compulsory and will be regularly checked.
Attendance of the lectures is not compulsory. It will be randomly checked but the absences does not affect the final grade of the semester.
c. In practical classes knowledge of the material presented at the lectures and practices will be regularly tested. A written midterm test will be held on week 9 (31.03.2020) at the venue and time of the lecture concerning the material covered in the third and fourth years. A pass in the midterm is the condition of acceptance of the term. Absence from midterm is only accepted in case of presenting a valid certificate. In case of uncertified absences the mark of that midterm would be considered as „failed”. In case of failed midterm there are two possibilities to retake it. Passing all the midterms is the condition of releasing a student to the exam.
d. Absences with doctor-certification count as absence, but in this case it can be made up with other groups.
e. The signature at the end of the term may be denied if a student (we’ll inform on the 13th week at the latest):
– misses more than 3 practices.
– shows ignorance of the material presented at the lectures and the practices- this is evaluated by the practice leader (specialist of dento-alveolar surgery).
– signature refusal will be announced latest on 13th week.
f. There is a semifinal examination (a written test) at the end of the second term of the fourth year for 4th students.
g. Usage of cell phones during the time of the practices is prohibited. If the student uses a mobile phone despite the warning of the practice leader, they cannot continue the given practice and have to leave the practice hall immediately. This dismissal is equal with an absence which takes into account of the permitted (maximum 3) absences in a semester. For taking notes during the time of the practices students can use: tablets, notebooks, small laptops.
h. The textbook ’Oral Surgery, Maxillofacial Surgery’ and notes made at the lectures and practices are recommented as a study material.

FOK V.

Requirements in Oral Surgery V. for 5th year Dental Students in the 2nd Term of the Year 2019/2020

a. See the topics on a separate sheet.
b. Attendance of the practices is compulsory and will be regularly checked.
Attendance of the lectures is not compulsory. It will be randomly checked but the absences does not affect the final grade of the semester.
Practices: one week practice in the inpatient wards: see on a separate sheet.
c. In practical classes knowledge of the material presented at the lectures and practices will be regularly tested.
d. Absences with doctor-certification count as absence, but in this case it can be made up with other groups.
e. Usage of cell phones during the time of the practices is prohibited. If the student uses a mobile phone despite the warning of the practice leader, they cannot continue the given practice and have to leave the practice hall immediately. This dismissal is equal with an absence which takes into account of the permitted (maximum 3) absences in a semester. For taking notes during the time of the practices students can use: tablets, notebooks, small laptops.
f. The signature at the end of the term may be denied if student (we’ll inform on the 13th week at latest):
– misses more than 30% of practices.
– shows ignorance of the material presented at the lectures and the practices- this is evaluated by the practice leader (specialist of dento-alveolar surgery).
g. There is a final examination at the end of the second term of the fifth year.
h. The textbook „Oral Surgery, Maxillofacial Surgery” and notes made at the lectures and practices are recommended as a study material.

The maximum number of absences in a semester is 3. More than 3 absences invalidate the semester. During the semester three midterm examinations should be passed. Practical course grade: (five-scaled).
