The Miscellaneous Group is led by Emese Sipter, an internist, diabetologist, lipidologist, and obesity specialist at Semmelweis University, with Gergely Agócs, a renowned biostatistician at the Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics, serving as co-director.
This multidisciplinary team of seven PhD students conducts research spanning a wide range of topics: they investigate the impact of insulin therapy in cystic fibrosis, the role of inflammatory mediators in diabetes progression among pre-diabetic adults, and the risk factors for atherosclerosis in obese populations.
Other key focuses include identifying predictive factors of papillary thyroid microcarcinoma, improving the diagnostic accuracy of dysglycemia using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), and studying the health effects of micro- and nanoplastics. The group also evaluates the safety and efficacy of therapies for preventing corneal haze after refractive surgery.
Their work is supported by endocrinologist Gábor Kovács (ÉPC-HK) and, from the Department of Ophthalmology, Zsolt Zoltán Nagy and Ágnes Takács. Methodological support is provided by junior SMS members Isabel Amorim and Jimin Lee, and senior SMS Anett Rancz.
The group aims to advance healthcare and global health through high-quality, collaborative research.
