The Gastroenterology Group is led by Tibor Gyökeres and Péter Jenő Hegyi; the dynamic team consists of 13 PhD students and is supported by 10 professors and clinicians. Methodological support is provided by junior SMS members Amir Makolli and Jimin Lee, senior SMS Mahmoud Obeidat, and biostatistician Andrea Harnos.
Their research focuses on key topics in gastroenterology and pancreatology: optimizing surgical outcomes in IBD, evaluating innovative therapeutic strategies for pancreatic tumors, improving the diagnostic accuracy of pancreatic neoplasms, exploring the impact of exclusive enteral nutrition, integrating renal transplantation therapies in type 1 diabetes, and investigating the prevalence of gastrointestinal disorders in patients with eating disorders. The team employs cutting-edge techniques such as ROSE/MOSE, PET/MRI, and ERCP-guided diagnostics to increase prognostic precision and therapeutic effectiveness, with the ultimate aim of achieving tangible improvements in patient care quality.
