The Cardiology, Sports, and Space Science Group operates in an exceptionally diverse range of fields: cardiology, clinical pharmacology, orthopaedics and traumatology, interventional radiology, space research, neurosurgery, psychiatry, and physiotherapy. Their research includes the investigation of different pacemaker modes in bradycardia, the effects of physical exercise on post-fracture recovery, cardiovascular risk factors among immigrants, minimally invasive treatment options for drug-resistant epilepsy, and the impact of space environments on the skin.
The group is led by Péter Ferdinandy, Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation at Semmelweis University, and Gábor Duray, Head of the Cardiology Department at the North Pest Centre Hospital. The team consists of 15 PhD students – including 3 MD–PhD candidates – whose work is supported by biostatistician Tamás Kói and three scientific-methodological supervisors: Nina Galdzytska and Amir Makolli (junior SMS), and Marie Anne Engh (senior SMS).
