1st. Department of Surgery and Interventional Gastroenterology is the largest surgical department in Hungary, dealing with many surgical specialties. 3,500 surgical interventions are carried out per year at the Department, which is equipped with 101 beds and six operation theatres. Critically ill patients are treated by the Intensive Care Unit. Every year, more than 150 Hungarian, 200 English, and 100 German-speaking medical students are involved in the surgical programme through their curricula.
