About us

The Department of Molecular Biology participates in the basic module of the curricula for General medicine and Dentistry training courses at Semmelweis University with two compulsory – a one-semester Medical Chemistry and a two-semester Molecular Cell Biology – subjects as well as several elective ones. These subjects are taught in all three languages at the two faculties in the form of both lectures and laboratory practices. The teaching staff of the Department take part in MSc-level courses at other universities too. They teach molecular biology, recombinant DNA techniques and signal transduction in the Health Engineering MSc training of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics at Budapest University of Technology and Economics, and in the Medical Biotechnology MSc training of the Faculty of Information Technology and Bionics at Pázmány Péter Catholic University.
It contributes largely to the excellence of the training provided by the Department that the lecturers also conduct research of high quality even at international standards, funded by independent research grants and within the framework of intensive domestic and international collaborations. The successful scientific research activity of the Department also provides a basis for the admission of a substantial number of doctoral (PhD) students and TDK students interested in the experimental work at the Department. In addition to the successful qualifications and the great results achieved at TDK conferences, the quality is also well-shown by the number of habilitated doctors, doctors of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, academics and Széchenyi laureates among the lecturers of the department.
