The Genetics block introduces students to the structure of the human genome and to the forms and mechanisms of genetic and epigenetic variability. It presents the related clinical and theoretical applications and analyzes gene–disease relationships using a systems-oriented approach.

Practical Session Attendance and Absences:

Practical session attendance

Students must attend classes in their own Neptun-assigned group. Attendance in another group is not permitted, and missed practical sessions cannot be made up in a different group.

Minimum attendance requirement

Students are required to attend at least 75% of practical sessions.

Attendance registration

Attendance at practical sessions is registered weekly by the instructor.

Total absences per semester

A maximum of 3 absences per semester is allowed, regardless of the reason.

Late arrivals

Two late arrivals of up to 10 minutes count as 1 absence.
A single delay of more than 20 minutes counts as 1 absence.

Responsibility for absences

Students are responsible for keeping track of their own absences. The instructor will provide a summary of absences only at the end of the semester.

Consequence

More than 3 absences invalidate the semester.

 

Mandatory Midterms

Midterm schedule

8th and 13th teaching weeks, at the time and place of the practical sessions, with personal attendance

Test format

Written test, 40 points, 40 minutes, completed on paper.

Test content

Topics from the lectures and practical sessions preceding the midterm, as specified under the “Midterm” tab in Moodle: textbook material (text and figures) and the provided PDF study materials.

No rescheduling or improvement

Midterms cannot be postponed and results cannot be improved.

Results

Results are available on the online Moodle platform and are also posted in Neptun. E-mails asking about results will not receive a response.

Requirement for signature

 

The result of each midterm must be ≥50%.

Bonus

Average of the two midterms ≥80% and QR-code-confirmed attendance at at least 7 lectures → offered colloquium grade of 4 (Good).

Average of the two midterms ≥90% and QR-code-confirmed attendance at at least 7 lectures → offered colloquium grade of 5 (Excellent).

Missed midterm

If a student is unable to attend a midterm for a legitimate reason, the absence must be justified to the practical instructor within one week.

Make-up midterms will be held in weeks 10 and 14 at times outside the regular timetable; students will be notified via Neptun.

Make-up for a failed midterm

If a student scores below 50% on a midterm, a make-up midterm will be held in week 10 or at the end of the semester, as applicable. A maximum of two repeat attempts is allowed. (TVSZ §29 (2)) The make-up date will be announced via Neptun.

Exam format

Written exam via Moodle during the exam period

Duration: 50 minutes, 60 points. At least 50% required to pass.

Exclusively through Neptun.

Identity verification

According to the University Study and Examination Rules, students must prove their identity with an official photo ID (passport, student card). Photos shown on a phone are not accepted. If identity cannot be verified, a “did not appear” status is recorded in Neptun; the exam opportunity is not lost, but an exam administration fee must be paid as specified in the applicable University regulations. (TVSZ §34 (8))

Exam content

The examination covers the topics taught in lectures and practical sessions, as well as the textbook material specified in the syllabus (see the Moodle). In addition to knowledge of the course material, students are expected to synthesize and integrate their knowledge. When studying, students should remember that the examinable material includes not only the text of the textbook and lectures but also figures and diagrams.

Results

Published in Neptun within 48 hours. E-mail inquiries regarding comprehensive examination results will not receive a response.

Retake examination

Two retake opportunities.

Failed retake examination

In accordance with the Semmelweis University Study and Examination Regulations (TVSZ), the third examination attempt must be taken before an examination committee. For this course, the third attempt is conducted as an oral examination.

Unexcused absence

One exam opportunity is lost.

Justification of absence

An absence supported by a valid reason must be justified to the course coordinator within 3 business days, in person, in writing, electronically, or through an authorized representative.

If the student adequately justifies the absence, the “did not appear” entry will be deleted. (TVSZ §34 (10))

 

Further information

Students may only attend classes if they are in a suitable mental and physical condition. Recording of audio, images, or video during lectures and practical sessions is strictly prohibited (Rector KORL_6_2013).
