Centre for Translational Medicine – where science serves healthcare

The main goal of the Centre for Translational Medicine is to build a bridge between scientific research and clinical practice, thereby speeding up the application of research findings in patient care. This mission is supported by the key activities below.

The Centre operates under the supervision of the University Rector, with the involvement of the Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation. Professional work is led by the Director in close cooperation with domestic and international partners.

Education – training the next generation of scientists for real-world impact

CTM education programmes explicitly support medical-research and scientific career paths, especially for those who wish to excel in both the clinic and research.

  • PhD training – Translational Medicine PhD Programme (since 2021): nearly 90 new students start each year in this internationally recognised, practice-oriented doctoral course. More ›
  • MSc training (since 2024): the one-year intensive master’s course bridges university studies and a scientific career. More ›
  • Continuing education: winter and summer schools plus supervisor masterclasses ensure continuous professional development. More ›

Research support – data-driven innovation in healthcare

The Centre provides comprehensive, tailor-made professional support for all university-related scientific projects:

  • ECDMS system at Semmelweis University – a four-step validated clinical database that offers structured healthcare data for research purposes.
  • Biostatistical, IT and AI support – expert assistance for multicentre studies, complex data analyses and AI-based approaches.

The Centre for Translational Medicine aims to build bridges between researcher and physician, lab and bedside, idea and implementation. Our programmes are open to anyone who wishes to actively contribute to a more effective, knowledge-based healthcare system.

Why did I choose the CTM?

The Centre for Translational Medicine is more than a place of study – it is a community where science truly impacts people’s lives. Our students and colleagues are motivated young researchers, clinicians and lecturers who believe that scientific results only reach their goal when they also reach patients.

In this section you can read personal stories: our students and staff explain why they chose the CTM and how this decision has shaped their careers.

Watch our swipe-through videos and discover the CTM through the eyes of those who have already started this journey!
