The TEA-NET Symposium 2026, titled “New Horizons in Translational Sciences”, was held from 11 to 13 March 2026 at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). The international meeting brought together leading scientists, clinicians and researchers from Europe and Asia to strengthen collaboration in translational science and medicine.
The symposium was initiated by the Section of Basic and Clinical Translational Sciences of Academia Europaea and organised within the framework of the Translational European-Asian Network (TEA-NET).
The opening session featured welcome remarks by Professor Dennis Yuk-ming Lo, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK. Professor Béla Merkely, Rector of Semmelweis University, also addressed participants, highlighting the importance of European–Asian scientific cooperation in accelerating the translation of research discoveries into improved patient care.
The scientific programme focused on the Translational Medicine Cycle Model and explored recent advances in fields such as the gut–microbiome–brain axis, artificial intelligence in medicine, medical robotics, anaesthesiology, musculoskeletal and neurodegenerative diseases, and cardiometabolic disorders.
As part of the programme, Professor Peter Hegyi and his team from Semmelweis University delivered a Time Management Workshop for undergraduate students at the CUHK Faculty of Medicine, introducing practical skills in vision-setting and time planning for young researchers.
Founded in 2023 on the initiative of Academia Europaea, TEA-NET aims to strengthen cooperation between European and Asian institutions and to promote the translation of scientific discoveries into clinical practice and societal benefit. Semmelweis University plays a key role in coordinating the network’s European activities, while CUHK serves as the Asian coordinating centre.
