Action plan based on the student feedback received in the 1st semester of the 2020/2021 academic year

Curriculum change
The students study implantology for two semesters (second semester of 4th grade, first semester of 5th grade). From this semester, the practices will be held in the first semester. This will harmonize with the material of the theoretical lectures and make it easier for students to delve into a particular topic. The students use the theoretically obtained information directly in practice and interpret the curriculum better.
Within the lectures of the 2nd semester, students meet with a guest speaker every year. The topic of these lectures is up to the guest speaker. We would like to continue to invite well-known non-university lecturers to give lectures.
Our feedback on general comments by the students:
Students say: „The content of the practical course is very similar to the first semester lectures, therefore I think it would be better to have the practicals during Implantology I”
Our response: Earlier years we had the practical courses in the second semester of implantology. Our goal was to build up a theoretical knowledge base in the first semester so that we can focus more on practical considerations during the second semester. Regarding the student feedback and our experiences we decided to change this method. Now the practices take place in the first semester to give a better insight for students to indulge in implantology. This takes more effort from them but might be more beneficial in the long run.
Our feedback on specific comments on mandatory subjects:
Students say:
„it was really good, especially the practicals more. only problem is the lectures was not recorded on the zoom for us to playback review.”
Our response: Recording a practice is not as straightforward as recording a lecture due to the potentially higher number of people that may appear on screen. This might pose the question of personal rights. However we plan to make short video edits that demonstrate the relevant practical summary of some of the important topics and help the students to recall the practical material.
Students say:
„It would be nice to have an official textbook as the hungarian students have. It will help to understand the concepts more”
„The book you recommended is in hungarian the website doesn’t exists. Very hard to study for the final like that, the lectures are not enough and are not clear”
„The material provided is a little confusing, it would be great if the book was in english, you can only learn so much in lectures anyway. A book is needed to give a well rounded knowledge of a subject.”
Our response: We plan to publish a new textbook.
Other objectives: We would like to introduce live surgeries as well for the students during the implantology courses.
