Our department examines organically based psychiatric disorders (dementias, cognitive disorders, other organic mental disorders), neurological diseases (cerebrovascular disease, Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, etc.) psychiatric syndromes and the treatment of psychiatric disorders in old age. Our patients are admitted primarily by appointment, as planned, based on close collaboration with our Memory Outpatient Clinic.
The 23-bed Acute Psychiatric Department provides emergency psychiatric care to patients with a threatening or imminently threatening behavior due to a mental disorder (most often psychotic or severe mood illness, substance use-related mental disorder, crisis) with the use of medications and psychotherapists. The department has 3 specialists, 3 resident doctors, 3 nurses and 1 safety nurse per shift.
The main profile of our department is the investigation of mood disorders (unipolar depression, bipolar disorder, dysthymic and cyclothymic disorders) as well as anxiety disorders (panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder) and psychotic diseases. In addition to pharmacotherapy, complementary supportive psychotherapy is used during classroom treatment.
Most of our patients are admitted by appointment after a psychiatric examination at the outpatient clinic of our clinic.
The patient care activities of our 30-bed ward are diverse. Our department also provides care for patients in and out of the area, both in the form of emergency and scheduled administration. Our main profiles include emergency care for patients with substance use disorders, primarily alcohol, and preparation for their longer-term rehabilitation. The care of patients who are in a difficult situation due to life difficulties or mental problems and need emergency care is another major profile of our department. Patient care is provided using pharmacological and psychotherapeutic methods, and in the treatment of our patients with physical illnesses, we also use the consultants of our partner clinics, and in the case of social difficulties, we also use the help of social workers. There are 3 specialists, 3 resident doctors, 3 nurses per shift, and part-time social workers.
