Simona is spending a 3 months internship in our group to learn direct neuronal conversion and lentiviral production. She is a pharmaceutical biotechnologist and graduated from Bologna University. Simona is currently doing her PhD at IDiBE (Miguel Hernández University) under the supervision of Professors Antonio Ferrer and Asia Fernández in the Sensory Neurobiology group. The goal of her PhD is to obtain an in-vitro model of human sensory neurons through direct conversion from fibroblasts, in order to study pathologies such as migraine, chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy and other conditions that affect the somatosensory system.
