On the occasion of Semmelweis University’s 40th Anniversary of international medical education, the most successful Semmelweis Student event of all time, the Semmelweis Summer University will take place between 1-2 September as an international event, with parallel sessions in Hungarian and English at the Basic Medical Science Center. All Hungarian and international students are welcome to attend the event free of charge and can earn one credit per day, provided that they register for the course in Neptun and verify their presence via the QR-code system during the event.

Launched in 2019 to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Semmelweis University, the Summer University is a traditional and lively start to each academic year. In 2022, this popular event will be held in an international form for the very first time, welcoming all international and Hungarian students to celebrate together the 40 years of international education and enjoy a wide variety of professional & scientific lectures, and entertainment programs.

You can find the course in Neptun under the following codes (in the category “All other subjects in the institution”) :

For international Students (English and German):

Hungarian lectures will take place in the Szent-Györgyi Lecture Hall and will be streamed in the Lobby and the Békésy Lecture Hall.

Courses are worth 1 credit, so in case you attend both days, and verify your presence by scanning the QR codes on the spot, you can earn 2 credits with this compulsory elective subject (elective subject in case of some specializations). The international subject can only be taken by students of the German and English courses, but during the event, international students can participate in the Hungarian lectures, and Hungarian students can also join the international sessions.

On the first day of the international program, as a ceremonial opening of the anniversary year, you can listen to lectures on the achievements and challenges of Semmelweis University as well as on the past, present, and future of international education of our institution, followed by a History and Culture session. In the afternoon, during the session organized in the framework of EUniWell, you can get engaged in exciting talks about physical and mental health. The day will end with a great movie on the life of Gedeon Richter (with English subtitles). On the second day, you can join a wide variety of lectures on various professional fields, presented by the Faculties, and get familiar with the latest news of science and innovations. Among many other exciting topics, this day will include an online lecture on scientific and healthcare communications, brought to you as part of the EUniWell Open Lecture Series by a Semmelweis Alumni straight from New York.

The international program is organized by the Center of Education of International Studies and the Directorate of International Relations, in close cooperation with the international student associations ISSA and DSVS and the Alumni Directorate.
