As Chief Advisor for the Hungarian Mentoring Program, I was delighted to join the organising team of the international division. There is a vast field upon which I shall navigate, such as supervising the operations of the Board, putting together the curricula, developing the training and their materials, and advising Mentors, just to name a few. Together with Mark, we make a team to report to the Head of the Department, and discuss the progress of the program with the Hungarian Board.

I was always been keen on working with the international students of our University. Therefore, when I was asked to start forming the Student Mentoring Program for students learning at the English and German language program of medicine, I started it immediately with joy. I oversee the work of Board members, I am in day-to-day contact with all of them, resolving all sorts of problems. I am also organizing workshops, lectures, and supervision sessions. I love holding workshops and supervisions for our international students, I feel so energetic and involved. I am utmost determined to evolve and expand this program so that it can become completely inclusive and universal for all Semmelweis students!
Adrienne Stauder  – Advisor

stauder.adrienne[at]semmelweis.hu CV: https://semmelweis.hu/magtud/en/institute/staff/dr-adrienne-stauder/ As a medical communication teacher and a counsellor at the Student Psychological Counselling Service of the Semmelweis University, I gained insight into the various challenges that international students face upon their arrival and over their study period at Semmelweis University. Over the years I often thought that many of the problems which bring students to counselling could have been prevented if these students had got a better guidance from the very start of their stay in Budapest. Also many problems related to (the lack of) social relationships and extra-curricular activities could be better solved via peer support. Therefore I am very pleased that the student mentoring program has started this year for the international students, I am committed to support the mentors and the mentees to connect and to enrich each others student life experiences. I also want to “pay back” the help and support that I have got myself during my studies in other countries.

Eden Friedman – Board Member

Hello, everyone!
I’m Eden Friedman, a fifth-year student in the English International Medicine program. My journey at Semmelweis University has emphasized the significance of collaboration, effective communication, and mutual support. I can relate this to my background as a musician, specifically as a flute player. As international students in Hungary, it’s imperative that we stand by each other, connect with people from across the globe, engage with our Hungarian friends, and make the most of our time here while striving to excel in our pursuit of becoming exceptional physicians. I am dedicated to assisting each one of you in your medical journey, whether it’s related to your Semmelweis studies, board exams, licensing exams abroad, or simply socializing. Feel free to reach out to me for advice or even to have a friendly chat over a cup of coffee!

Alexandra Pop – Board member, communication manager

popalexandra48[at]gmail.com

Hello! I’m Alexandra Pop, a dedicated 5th-year medical student at Semmelweis University. Over the past two years, I have had the privilege of mentoring my fellow students, where I have helped guide and support them at the beginning of their academic journeys. This experience has given me valuable insights into the challenges students face, and I have developed a deep passion for making their transition into university life as smooth as possible. This year I had the chance to get a new role by joining the leadership of the International Mentor Program. This program is dedicated to helping our international students integrate more easily into the Semmelweis Family.
As a board member, my main tasks include communication and organization: I am responsible for facilitating effective communication between mentors and mentees, ensuring that information flows smoothly, and addressing any concerns or questions that may arise. Additionally, I play a key role in coordinating the work of the English division of the program.
Looking ahead, I aim to build a bridge between the three language divisions at our university – Hungarian, English, and German.
I believe we can further enhance the cross-cultural exchange of knowledge and experiences by connecting these divisions more closely.
I am here to help in any way I can and am excited to contribute to the community we have here at Semmelweis University. If you have any questions, need guidance, or want to connect, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

Kevin Babayigit – Board member, logistics manager

babayigit2001kevin[at]gmail.com

Hello! My name is Kevin Babayigit, and I’m a 5th-year medical student in the Hungarian faculty. I have participated in the Mentoring Program since 2021, spending 2 years as a mentor in the Hungarian division. As a future doctor, this gave me an outstanding opportunity to help someone who needs support (like our job will be).
I was a teaching assistant at the Department of Anatomy and Pharmacology. Besides, I am dealing with International students as a tutor. Recognizing the severe difficulties of starting the university, especially as a foreign student, I happily joined the Program to organize and release the international division. In the summer of 2023, with the leaders of the Hungarian division and the other board members, we successfully launched it with unexpected numbers regarding the number of mentors and mentees. I hope that with the Program, not only the time spent in the University and in Hungary will be more pleasant and joyful for the incoming students, but the 3 Faculty (Hungarian-International-German) will get closer to building a more integrated and solidary university.
