The International Mentoring Program (IMP) welcomed the new academic year with its opening ceremony on September 16 at the NET Brown Lecture Hall. This year, 93 senior students from Years 3-6 will mentor more than 200 first-year students, while the German Program brings together 50 mentors and 164 mentees. Together, the mentors will help newcomers find their way through their first year at Semmelweis and life in Budapest. Mentors share their own experiences, offer advice on studying and university resources, and help with practical matters, while also giving newcomers an introduction to Hungarian culture and customs.
The evening began with opening remarks by Dr. Adrienne Stauder, Director of the IMP, Prof. Dr. György Purebl, Vice-Dean and Director of the Institute of Behavioural Sciences, and Prof. Dr. Alán Alpár, Vice-Rector for International Studies and Head of the Center of International Training Programs. Looking back on the previous year, participants shared their experiences and outstanding contributions were recognized with certificates and awards. The new IMP team then introduced this year’s program, including the “Open Circle” peer-led mental wellbeing support group. After a Q&A session, mentors and mentees moved into small-group activities, where they had the chance to meet, get to know each other and take the first steps towards a successful mentoring relationship.
