Ethical and legal issues

The activity of the Human Brain Tissue Bank and Laboratory, Semmelweis University (HBTB) has been authorized by the Ethical Committee of the Ministry of Health of Hungary strictly for research studies. The tissue samples are made available without charge to qualified researchers or research laboratories worldwide.

In the HBTB the samples and their relevant personal data are stored in a strict ethical control with full respect of the personal rights. The personal and the scientific data are stored in separated electronic files. The HBTB has an effort to collect all possible family, medical and pathological reports from the persons whose brains are dissected.

The HBTB has been authorized by the Committee of Science and Research Ethic of the Ministry of Health of Hungary (No. 6008/8/2002/ETT) and the Semmelweis University Regional Committee of Science and Research Ethic (No. 32/1992/TUKEB) to remove human brain tissue samples, collect, store and use them for research.
