This academic year, we are undertaking a major research project as part of the Mentor Program. A key objective is the ongoing Hungarian translation and testing of the Jefferson Scale of Empathy questionnaire. We want to emphasize that this is a large-scale research project and we need your help to make it a success.

What is the Jefferson Scale of Empathy?

This questionnaire is a widely used international tool for measuring empathy in healthcare professionals and students.

How does this research help?

The purpose of this research is to gain a comprehensive understanding of student empathy. We plan to ask all students at the Semmelweis University Faculty of Medicine, studying in both Hungarian, English and German, to complete the questionnaire. Our goal is to eventually include students from other medical universities across the country.

In addition to empathy, our research will also measure student burnout, resilience, and well-being, and examine the connections between these factors. These are data points that have never been studied on such a large, domestic population before in Hungary.

Finally, we are also interested in the role of the Mentor Program in shaping these characteristics. This is why your participation is so important. We will ask you to complete the survey three times during the academic year: at the beginning and end of the fall semester, and at the end of the spring semester. It is essential that you complete the survey all three times for the research to be successful. You can find more details about the research on our website.

What do I need to do?

For students participating in the Mentor Program this year, completing the survey all three times is a requirement. The survey content will be the same each time, but we will send a new link for each instance. After completing the questionnaire, please enter your Neptun code so we can track your participation.

Thank you in advance for your help!
